Big Mouths

So officially at the ultrasound the husband and I decided that we were going to wait until the Thanksgiving Holiday to announce the baby's gender. At that point no one knew the gender and only a few family members knew that we were pregnant. But several people, who will remain anonymous spilled beans and not only told people we were expecting but then also blabbed the gender surprise! So now we have no holiday surprises to share. However we do have pics to share.

I am concerned about announcing the baby's gender because sometimes it turns out that the ultrasound was wrong and then you end up with all the wrong color and gender baby stuff. So we are trying to stress the importance of gender friendly clothing etc. Plus the fact the fact that we hate the masses of sports, cars, trucks, and planes stuff that is out there for boys. Nothing is worse than a onesie with printed with "Daddy's Little All Star" on it or "Future Fireman". We really don't see the need to apply gender stereotypes to careers and clothing and we really don't want to teach that to our future children.

Suspense!

Are you absolutely dying yet? Were you chomping your nails just waiting to hear if our little one is a boy or a girl?

Well we had the ultrasound on Tuesday and the baby did not want to cooperate for the camera. We did get to see the heartbeat and hear the heartbeat for the first time. Wow it was amazing and had me in tears! The tech had me roll on my side and poked me to try to get a good pic of the baby. Then I had to walk around a bit and jump up and down. All in an effort to get the baby to show us the goods . . .

To be continued . . .

Week 18 - Will we find out who's in there?

Well this is the BIG week. we have our big ultrasound tomorrow morning and if the baby cooperates for the camera, we should be able to find out who is in there - a boy or a girl! Very exciting but also kind of sad. It has been really fun not knowing who is in there. Right now the baby is currently named our little acrobat becasue they love to do acrobatics every time I walk around and excercise.

Don't worry I am sure we will post the pics and tell everyone but we will not be sharing our naming choices with everyone. For some strange reason everyone thinks they have a right to comment on potential baby names, when it really is none of their business. I don't want to hear that a certain name is bad becasue someone's boyfriend, girlfriend, or teacher had that name and was a horrible person or that a name is too trendy or something stupid like that. We didn't know that person so it doesn't matter to us! So for the name of our little one, you will all have to wait at least 22 more weeks!

Lights . . . Camera . . . Action!

I survived the interview! It was pretty painless. I just talked and answered a few questions about our pregnancy and the First Trimester Screening Test that we had done last trimester. Then they took a bunch of footage of me knitting, taking my prenatal vitamin, and putting baby clothes in the closet.

It will be interesting to see how they edit and cut it all together. The production company is suppoesed to inform me what networks and new stations pick up the segment and when it will air on TV. Also we'll get several DVD copies of the final production. So who knows maybe I'll be on the Today Show!

Baby to get His/Her 15 Minutes of Fame

This morning I got a call from the hospital about our First Trimester Prenatal (FTS) Screening Test. We had the test a few weeks ago and everything came out just fine with a negative result for fetal birth defects. We were happy with the result to say the least. It's always good to have someone in a white lab coat tell you not to worry.

Well the hospital wanted to ask if I would be willing to be interviewed, probably on camera to talk about our experience with the FTS. It is probably for a documentary or a national spot on the issue - it wasn't a local TV thing. They wanted to talk with someone who had a negative result and my name came up somehow. Now the PR person from the hospital is going to call and set the whole thing up.

I'll let you know if it's supposed to be on TV or anything. Who knows maybe it is for a school documentary for med students. In any event the baby is going to get his/her 15 minutes of fame and they aren't even here yet!
